The WNBA on Monday announced plans to begin the 2020 season with a 22-game schedule set to tipoff in early July without the presence of fans at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
The league is finalizing plans to return to the court with all 12 teams competing in one location with a traditional playoff format to follow the regular season. The WNBA and the IMG Academy are working with health experts amid the coronavirus pandemic to develop guidelines to ensure medical protocols and protections are in place.
The 2020 season will be the shortest in WNBA history, though players will receive their full pay and benefits upon returning to play. The WNBA is targeting early July for teams to report to the IMG Academy with the regular season tentatively scheduled to begin in late July after a team training camp period.
