Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet was ruled out of playing on Monday versus the Washington Wizards due to a hip injury, which forced head coach Nick Nurse to shuffle the starting lineup.
Nurse on Sunday said the team would likely start rookie Malachi Flynn in place of VanVleet, but they will now turn to DeAndre’ Bembry instead of Flynn. The team confirmed the lineup change just prior to tipoff versus the Wizards.
VanVleet was listed as questionable to play versus the Wizards with a left hip flexor strain but will not be able to suit up. He suffered the injury on Friday versus the Golden State Warriors in the third quarter and would not return to the Raptors’ 53-point victory.
Flynn will not start. Instead it’s Trent/Bembry/Anunoby/Siakam/Boucher

Flynn is coming off of his best performance of the season after scoring a career-high 16 points against the Warriors. The outing was just his second of the season in double figures after playing sparingly throughout much of the year.
