Wisconsin basketball started their year in tragedy and ended in triumph. Over the summer, Wisconsin assistant coach Howard Moore was involved in a driving accident that took the life of his wife and daughter. A drunk driver going the wrong-way left the Moore family and the Wisconsin basketball family reeling.
The Badgers men’s basketball team played this season for Moore as he remained away from the team in recovery. Their slogan, “Do Moore, Be Moore, 4 Moore,” was on the back of their shooting shirts and in their hearts all season. Playing for the Moore family, Wisconsin came from behind in February and March to shock the Big Ten and win a share of the conference title with Moore’s 13-year-old son Jerrell on the Badger bench for it all.
The ninth annual Wisconsin sports awards recognized the inspirational story of the Badgers and the Moore family in a year unlike any other for the program. The Badgers were named the most inspirational athletes of the sporting year in the state of Wisconsin:
Do Moore. Be Moore. 4 Moore. A message that lasts longer than a season ❤️ Congratulations to @BadgerMBB on being named the Inspirational Athletes of the Year on behalf of the Howard Moore family. #WSA@JenLada pic.twitter.com/jOmFxXX3Js
