Wisconsin basketball recruiting has impressed as of late, landing transfer guard A.J. Storr and top 2024 point guard Daniel Freitag.
The bolstering of the roster comes after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign. While many were critical of head coach Greg Gard during and after the season, it’s clear he has a productive vision for the future of the program.
One of Gard’s remaining top targets in the class of 2024 is in-state shooting guard Kon Knueppel. The Milwaukee native has offers from top programs across the country, including Virginia, Illinois, Iowa and Miami.
Jon McNamara of Rivals tweeted Tuesday that Knueppel continues to rise in the site’s class of 2024 rankings. He recently shot up from the No. 21 player overall to No. 13.
In-state five-star Kon Knueppel continues to climb the @Rivals rankings. The standout from #Wisconsin Lutheran and @PhenomUniverse jumps eight spots to No. 13 in the countryhttps://t.co/UIIe0W4Hfihttps://t.co/vWLTjJookV

Gard landing the five-star guard would be one of the biggest recruiting wins of his career, especially coming after landing Freitag. The class with Freitag and three-star small forward Jack Robison sits in the top-20 nationally. The addition of Knueppel would assuredly shoot the group into the top 10 and maybe higher.
No basketball games will be played for a few months in Madison, Wisconsin. But a massive contest off the court is ongoing. As the days pass, that contest to land Knueppel only gets bigger and bigger.
