The Wisconsin Badgers made a splash in the transfer portal on Tuesday evening by adding top ACC quarterback transfer Tyler Van Dyke. Van Dyke announced his decision via his X account.
Van Dyke’s decision to transfer to Wisconsin marks the second straight season that Luke Fickell and the Badgers made a splash in the transfer portal. Last year, they landed former Oklahoma and SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai in the portal.
For the Badgers this season, Mordecai was solid but nothing more, completing 64.6% of his passes for 1,687 yards and six touchdowns to four interceptions across nine games. Well below the numbers he posted in 2021 and 2022 with SMU, in which he completed 66.4% of his passes for 7,152 yards and 72 touchdowns to 22 interceptions in 24 games.
The Badgers offense in 2023 overall was subpar, averaging just 22.8 points per and 370.8 yards per game. Their offense, led by offensive coordinator Phil Longo is expected to take a step forward next season as the Wisconsin coaching staff continues to transition their roster offensively to fit an air raid scheme.
Wisconsin in 2023 went 7-5 which included a November win over the Cornhuskers 24-17 in Madison.
Matt Rhule and the Cornhuskers are currently looking to land their own quarterback via the transfer portal. The Huskers have been very active in the quarterback transfer market including hosting Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord on campus this week alongside teammate and fellow transfer Julian Fleming.
