The San Fransisco 49ers guaranteed the last game played at Lambeau Field during the 2019 season will be Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round game between the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.
The top-seeded 49ers dominated the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, locking in San Francisco as the location for the NFC Championship Game next Sunday and eliminating the scenario in which the Packers could have hosted the sixth-seeded Vikings at Lambeau Field.
The winner of Packers-Seahawks will go to Levi’s Stadium to play the 49ers with a trip to Super Bowl LIV on the line.
The Packers went to San Francisco in November and got blown out, losing 37-8 coming out of the bye week. They responded with five straight wins to get to 13-3.
The Seahawks split the season series with the 49ers, winning in San Francisco in overtime but losing at home in the season finale. The Week 17 loss made the 49ers the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
The Packers’ road to the Super Bowl is now set: Beat the Seahawks Sunday, then beat the 49ers in San Francisco next Sunday.
Before the November meeting, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers noted how his team would likely have to beat the 49ers in San Francisco at some point this season to get to the Super Bowl. They couldn’t do it in the regular season. Now, if they beat the Seahawks on Sunday, they’ll get another shot at taking down the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium.
