Winner of Packers-49ers to play Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV

A rematch of Super Bowl I is now possible if the Packers beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

A rematch of Super Bowl I is one-half set.

The Kansas City Chiefs got three touchdown passes and a miracle 27-yard scoring run from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to beat the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Field on Sunday.

The winner of the NFC Championship Game between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers will go to Miami to play Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.

If the Packers win, it’ll set up a rematch of the first-ever Super Bowl and create the first matchup between Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers, a two-time NFL MVP and the MVP of Super Bowl XLV.

Mahomes, the NFL’s MVP  in 2018, was out with a knee injury when the Packers beat the Chiefs in Kansas City earlier this season.

Another opportunity for a Mahomes-Rodgers showdown is now possible. And it could happen on the game’s biggest stage.

The Chiefs, who haven’t been to the Super Bowl since the 1969 season, overcame first-half deficits of 10-0 and 17-7 to beat the visiting Titans. Mahomes threw a pair of touchdown passes to Tyreek Hill and then swerved his way around tacklers and into the end zone from 27 yards out with 11 seconds left in the first half to give the Chiefs a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Packers won the first Super Bowl over the Chiefs. Bart Starr, the game’s MVP, threw two touchdown passes in the 35-10 victory. Starr, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, passed away in May of last year.
