Will Shaver commits to UAB, appears to throws shade at UNC basketball

Former UNC basketball center Will Shaver threw some shade at the UNC basketball program after committing to UAB.

Former North Carolina Tar Heels center Will Shaver has found a new home, again. After entering the transfer portal following the 2022-23 season, Shaver committed to Belmont before reopening his recruitment this week.

Now, he’s heading back home.

Shaver committed to UAB on Thursday morning as the transfer portal officially closed later that night. It’s the second commitment for Shaver here in the past month or so. While Shaver is returning home to play for UAB, he appeared to throw shade at his former team in the process.

Just minutes after committing to UAB, Shaver posted a screenshot of a score from 2013 when UAB beat North Carolina, 63-59, the lone win for the program in five tries over UNC:

I have no idea if there’s something more to this with Shaver’s exit from the program or what. But it just seems kind of odd to share this after finding a new program to play for.

Shaver enrolled early at North Carolina in 2022 as it made a run to the Final Four. He suffered an injury in December that cost him the rest of the 2022-23 season.
