Bucs QB Tom Brady took to Instagram yesterday to dispel the notion that a rift between him and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels played a role in his departure from New England.
While the six-time Super Bowl champion’s post should be taken as the final word in the matter, it’s hard to ignore video evidence from the past of Brady yelling at his offensive coordinators.
McDaniels was the recipient of one Brady tirade back in 2017 against the Bills, which you can see below. The argument came after Brady missed a wide open receiver down the field and caught the ire of McDaniels for missing out on a big play.

Then, there’s Brady’s infamous altercation with former Patriots OC and current Texans head coach Bill O’Brien. O’Brien, it seems, wasn’t having any of Brady’s attitude that day, giving it right back to the Golden Boy, and then some.
So, will Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich find himself in a similar situation this season with Brady? It’s a new offense for Brady, and the coronavirus pandemic has made training at team facilities impossible, so there may be some bumps in the road early on in the season as Brady finds his rhythm. Still, I find it highly unlikely he’ll get into a shouting match with Leftwich the way he did with McDaniels and O’Brien, especially since I think Bruce Arians would put an end to it fast.
But remember, there’s already been some miscommunication between Brady and Leftwich. Hopefully, that doesn’t spill over onto the field.
