Jakobi Meyers has been a productive NFL receiver for the past three seasons. Since the 2020 season, he’s racked up 209 receptions for 2,399 yards and eight touchdowns. But could he be even better in Las Vegas this year with Jimmy Garoppolo under center?
In a recent article by Kevin Patra of NFL.com, he took a look at all the wide receivers who switched teams in 2023 and discussed which ones will see a bump up in production.
The former Patriots receiver is adept over the middle, where new Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo does his best work, so Meyers should see a bevy of targets while in position to make plays. Trading tight end Darren Waller away also frees up space in the pass-catching pecking order. Davante Adams is the clear alpha and will remain the go-to receiver.
But there is room for a No. 2 to eat. Given Renfrow’s regression last season due to injury and McDaniels’ apparent desire to import a player with similar skills, I’m betting the plan is for Meyers to have a big role in the offense in 2023.
With Josh McDaniels knowing Meyers so well, there shouldn’t be any kind of adjustment period in Las Vegas. He should hit the ground running and with Adams taking most of the coverage, that should free up Meyers to see a ton of single coverage.
Meyers might not go over 1,000 yards with the Raiders, but look for his efficiency to rise and his overall usage in the passing game to go up. Don’t be surprised if 2023 is the best season of Meyers’ career as he is set up to succeed in Las Vegas. Las
