Will it be seen as a major snub if the San Antonio Spurs rookie wunderkind Victor Wembanayama does not win the NBA’s 2024 Defensive Player of the Year award? The French forward has gone from a gangly prospect finding his way on that end of the court to one of the league’s top defenders in less than a single season.

He can thank his otherworldly physical gifts as much as his hard work, dedication, and high basketball IQ for those leaps, along with the Spurs’ storied player development crew. Rarely has such growth been seen in a single season.
