Will Derek Carr play this week? Injury updates for Saints QB

Saints quarterback is dealing with a hand injury and concussion. Here are the latest updates.

The New Orleans Saints won’t start quarterback Derek Carr on Sunday against the Commanders. He suffered a left hand fracture and concussion in last week’s win over the New York Giants. That left the decision between Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler.

Derek Carr injury update

Carr is still battling the concussion and left-hand fracture. However, that doesn’t mean he will be inactive in Week 15. While the Saints will go into the game against the Washington Commanders with Jake Haener getting his first start at QB, Carr could be the second or third quarterback.

Darren Rizzi speaks about QB situation

Interim coach Rizzi discussed the team’s QB issues with Carr injured.

“They’re both guys that throw the ball well, they’re both similar size guys, athletic ability is very similar,” Rizzi said, “There’ll be some nuances in the game plan, depending on which guy starts, naturally. . . . But it’s not going to be this wholesale deal.”

Saints QB depth chart

Carr is listed as No. 1 on the depth chart with Haener behind him and Rattler third.
