There are a lot of questions facing the Vikins in 2020.
Who will step up and fill Stefon Diggs’ void at receiver? How will a brand new defensive backfield perform under Mike Zimmer? What about the offensive line?
Marc Sessler over at NFL.com thinks there’s one more question: Will defensive end Everson Griffen return to the Vikings?
Griffen said his “goodbye” to the Vikings on Instagram earlier this offseason but has yet to sign with a team and the Vikings haven’t ruled out Griffen returning to Minnesota.
Here’s a bit of what Sessler wrote about the Vikings and Griffen:
The Vikings added a whopping 15 players through the draft, filling needs at cornerback, wideout and along the offensive line. Minnesota didn’t address the pass rush until landing D.J. Wonnum in the fourth round, leaving a space wide open for the return of Griffen, who remains an unsigned free agent. The veteran edge rusher recently offered a “never say never” response to rejoining Minnesota, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
If Griffen were to return, it would be a huge boost to a pretty unfamiliar Vikings’ defense compared to most years.
In 2019, Griffen finished with 8.0 sacks and made his fourth Pro Bowl. Griffen’s 74.5 career sacks rank fourth in team history.
