Will Commanders’ Ron Rivera pull off another big upset?

Rivera’s teams have pulled off big upset wins in each of his previous three years as Washington’s coach.

Early season games have been quite difficult for Ron Rivera’s Washington teams, but he has gotten a big underdog win each season as Washington head coach.

In 2020, Washington won only one of their first six games and traveled to Pittsburgh a 4-7 team, facing the undefeated 11-0 Steelers. To no one’s surprise the Steelers jumped to a 14-0 lead, but Rivera and Washington came back and shocked the Steelers 23-17.

In the midst of their four-game losing streak in 2021, Washington faced Tampa Bay, the 6-2 defending Super Bowl champs at FedEx. Rivera’s team was only 2-6, bur Rivera had Washington prepared and they again pulled off a big upset when they defeated the Bucs 29-19.

Last season Rivera took his 4-5 Commanders team up to Philadelphia to face the undefeated 8-0 Eagles before a Monday Night national television audience. The Commanders surprised the Eagles to the tune of a 32-21 victory.

So, who will be Ron Rivera’s heavy favorite victim this year? Which team will be a large favorite, only to fall to Rivera and the Commanders?

Well, the Bills are 6-point favorites in the 1 p.m. ET contest at FedEx on Sunday. Could Sunday be the day for the fourth consecutive season that Ron Rivera takes a big underdog team to the field, and they come out the winner?
