The NFL’s trade deadline is coming up at 3:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 3rd. NFL, NFLPA and club facilities across the league being closed for Election Day, yet front offices across the league are hard at work negotiating potential trades ahead of the deadline.
Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid already shared his thoughts on the trade deadline this year, explaining that “there has been movement” despite the challenges related to COVID-19. As for the possibility of a Chiefs trade ahead of the deadline, Reid was tight-lipped.
But does it make sense for Kansas City to engage in a trade at the deadline this year? They haven’t made moves in the past few seasons, despite reported interest. In 2018, Brett Veach was closing in on a trade for Earl Thomas before he was injured with the Seattle Seahawks. Last year, the team was reportedly interested in acquiring RB Le’Veon Bell, who recently signed with the team as a free agent.
To find the last trade deadline move for the Chiefs you have to go back to 2016 when John Dorsey was still in charge of the front office. The team traded Knile Davis to the Green Bay Packers, acquiring a conditional late-round selection in return. They never collected that selection because Davis lasted just two weeks on the Packers roster.
Could this be the year that Veach finally pulls the trigger and makes a move? This team very much so all-in on their “Run It Back” tour, with the hopes of winning the Super Bowl for a second-straight year. However, do they have any areas of the roster that could be upgraded via trade?
The two areas that are most in need of an upgrade in Kansas City are linebacker and offensive line, but will NFL teams be selling young and affordable players at those positions? We identified a few players that the Chiefs should be interested in, but there is no telling if those players will be made available in trade. It could leave the Chiefs staying put with their current roster as they pursue an appearance and victory in Super Bowl LV.
