The Brooklyn Nets are in an interesting spot right now as they have seemingly changed the roster from one that was competing for championships to one where progression is the name of the game. That’s not to say that players like Mikal Bridges and Nic Claxton are not competent, but more about how much Brooklyn has lost in the past six months.
For starters, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the last of the remaining superstar era, were traded at the February deadline last season. Those moves brought in an influx of young talent in Bridges and Cam Johnson along with veterans in Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith to part with Claxton and Royce O’Neale.
This summer, however, the organization lost a bevy of shooters headlined by Joe Harris and Seth Curry. The team tried its best to make up for the lost shooting and overall talent by adding players like Dennis Smith Jr. and Lonnie Walker IV.
Cam Thomas, the microwave scorer heading into his third season, is one of the players looking for a bigger role and that could be replacing Seth Curry as the sixth/seventh man off the bench. The question is: can he beat out Walker IV? Steve Lichtenstein of Steve’s Newsletter recently wrote that this would be an interesting competition. Let’s break it down.
