The Cincinnati Bengals continue to hold out hope running back Joe Mixon can make it back this season.
Just not in Week 14 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor told reporters earlier this week that Mixon won’t play this weekend but that there is still “a possibility” he could make it back before season’s end, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.
To say the Bengals need Mixon back would be an understatement given the ineptitude of the offense.
Taylor spoke with Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com on what life without Mixon is like:
“No excuses. When things got tough last year, he was who we turned to to get it going and helping the passing game. He was able to help get those two victories in December. It makes it hard, but we just have to be creative and figure it out.”
Mixon appeared in just six games this year, tallying 428 yards and three scores on a 3.6 average. Given the poor state of the ever-changing line up front, even he was having a hard time getting going before suffering what has been a nagging foot injury.
Given how precautious the Bengals have been with injured players this year, it’s hard to imagine Mixon comes back at all. Like Jonah Williams, it might be better to be happy they avoided something more serious and make sure everyone gets to next season healthy.
