Wide receiver Malachi Coleman impressing coaches

Malachi Coleman was one of the top prospects for Nebraska in the class of 2023.

Nebraska football wide receivers coach Garrett McGuire had a positive review on wide receiver Malachi Coleman‘s progress earlier this week, as reported by Husker 247’s Brian Christopherson.

Coleman has had a quieter spring, as he is still recovering from a shoulder injury that plagued him throughout the year. He recorded eight catches for 138 yards and a touchdown last season, averaging 17.4 yards per catch. His best game came against Northwestern last October when he caught a 44-yard touchdown pass.

Now, he wants to become an established contributor in a wide receiver room. Coleman came to Nebraska with high expectations and is looking to bounce back from his injury.

As he noted earlier this week, McGuire has been impressed with Coleman’s work on the field.

“Still want him to trend in the right direction as far as gaining weight and getting back to a heavier playing weight but he’s doing a really good job. You see his physicality transitioning into his route running, which I think is super impressive. You’re talking about a big guy, you can win at the top of route being physical. So that’s been really exciting with him.”

Coleman has all the makings to be a top-tier wide receiver. His health will perhaps be his biggest obstacle. Nevertheless, his talent and potential should make Nebraska football fans feel optimistic,
