Tyler, The Creator just announced his new album, CHROMAKOPIA, coming in less than two weeks. He tweeted that the album’s official release date is on October 28.
All the music snobs out there reading this are probably raising a brow because of that release date. It’s a bit of an oddity.
October 28 is a Monday. The standard release time for most albums these days has been on Friday for the majority of the last decade to prevent piracy on global music releases.
Tyler is deviating from a music industry standard by releasing his album on a Monday.
But, for fans of his who’ve been following him for years, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Tyler explained in an interview with Nardwaur last year why he thought Monday music releases would be better than Fridays.

“People on the weekends, they just want to chill and hang out. So they’re not really listening. But I think if you put it out during the week, man. That commute to work or that commute to school or, just, whatever that is, you really have that hour or thirty minutes to dive in and really listen.”
He also said that putting albums out at midnight feels “disrespectful” to the artist.
“People are sleep on the east coast and people are going to sleep on the west,” he said. “I think it coming out in the morning would just make more sense.”
Makes sense to me.
