Why Tiger Woods is changing his putter for the PGA Championship

Tiger Woods is using a new putter this week at TPC Harding Park.

Tiger Woods’ trusty Scotty Cameron putter – the one he started using in 1999 and went on to win 14 more majors with after claiming his first green jacket – is undoubtedly the most valuable club in golf. According to ESPN, Woods earnings with the club top $94 million.

When Woods steps onto the course at TPC Harding Park for the first round of the 2020 PGA Championship, however, caddie Joe LaCava is expected to be carrying a different putter in Tiger’s bag. Woods has been practicing with a new adjustable Scotty Cameron that is slightly longer than his old putter. Woods’ frequent practice partner Steve Stricker said this week that the added length allows Woods to spend more time on the greens practicing without aggravating his back.

Via Golf Channel:

“It’s basically the same putter with a little bit more flexibility in the putter. The length is the difference. He’s got a little more length on there, and that’s just so he can practice a little bit more without back pain.”

Woods’ new model also has adjustable weights that he can tinker with to suit the speed of the greens.
