Why the Boston Celtics are a 2024 NBA trade deadline winner

The Boston Celtics did not exactly have the wildest of 2024 NBA trade deadlines, yet some analysts are calling them the winners of it just the same.

The Boston Celtics did not exactly have the wildest of 2024 NBA trade deadlines, yet some analysts are calling them the winners of it just the same. The Celtics’ full range of moves consisted of three distinct deals.

First, they traded reserve forward Lamar Stevens and two first round draft picks to the Memphis Grizzlies for backup big man Xavier Tillman, Sr. Then they sent a second rounder to the Philadelphia 76ers for reserve wing Jaden Springer. Lastly, Boston sent backup forward Dalano Banton to the Portland Trail Blazers to keep a roster spot open for buyout candidates.

This is not in and of itself a series of blockbuster moves, but the Celtics made those over the summer, and used resources aggressively to fine-tune their depth.

The eponymous host of the “Hoops Tonight with Jason Timpf” podcast recently broke down why he thinks Boston won the trade deadline. Check it out above to hear why.
