Why did Kristaps Porzingis request a trade from the New York Knicks? Speaking on a recent episode of the “Old Man and the 3” podcast hosted by ex-NBAer JJ Redick, the star Boston Celtics big man shed some light on why his first stop in the NBA went sideways.
Porzingis reflected on the significant adjustment he faced as a 19-year-old moving from Spain to play for the iconic Knicks organization, for one. Instability in a franchise with demanding fans did not help the situation for the younger version of KP, either. Mix in some injury woes, and the recipe for disaster soon became a reality for Porzingis.
Looking back, he expressed some regret about how certain aspects of his tenure in New York were handled, hinting at a desire to approach things differently moving forward.
