Why Chase Winovich is obsessed with milk: ‘It’s a super-dramatic story’

OK then…

Chase Winovich has always had his eccentricities, whether it’s his long hair –or his hair color. He’s not your average New England Patriots’ rookie. So it was almost unsurprising when his videoconference took a bizarre left turn, and the outside linebacker got into a lengthy rant about milk, the dairy industry and “beautiful cows.”

Yes, this actually happened.

“This might get me in trouble, but this isn’t an ad, I was just drinking a whey protein shake, essential for my post-practice recovery. It’s one of those things where I feel like there’s a subtle war against milk,” Winovich said Tuesday. “And as an avid dairy drinker, I definitely enjoy that, and my Twitter account has become a bit of a beverage review account. But I obviously enjoy milk. I think dairy farmers do excellent work around this country.

“We need to appreciate them and the beautiful cows that are also milked and produce this delicious milk.”

Winovich explained where his dairy enthusiasm comes from.

“Recently in the offseason, I have a YouTube channel called ‘Wino On A Quest’. And we actually went to Vermont, it’s called Liberty Hill Farms. There’s an Airbnb, not sure how it operates with COVID and stuff. But I got the opportunity to meet all the cows and actually milk some,” He said. “It’s a super-dramatic story. It was an awesome time. I really just fell in love with the process. Already had a love for milk.

“I’ve been tweeting about milk for years. I think I tweeted ‘Nothing like the feeling of milk running through your mustache’ a couple years ago. Brian Antonelli left the call, he must not like the milk response. But yeah, as well as that, my cousin also is a dairy farmer in the Pittsburgh region, Lancaster County, Amish country. I know that’s a lot of answer.”

Considering the Patriots have lacked personality on their videoconference calls this season — perhaps secured under Belichick’s thumb more than normal — it was refreshing to hear Winovich get excited about something, even if it was … milk.
