Recently extended Boston Celtics reserve guard Payton Pritchard looks like the ball club’s sixth man for Boston’s 2023-24 campaign kicking off on Wednesday evening vs. the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden with backup forward Sam Hauser and veteran big man Luke Kornet backing up the other positions on the second unit based on what we have seen so far in 2023 preseason action for the Celtics.
But specialists like reserve forward Oshae Brissett, backup wing Lamar Stevens, and sharpshooting swingman Svi Mykhailiuk could become upgrades over the team’s recent second units in past seasons. The importance of having players with specific skills to complement the starters, such as shooting, offensive rebounding, and defense, on the bench, may be critical to Boston’s pursuit of Banner 18.
On a recent episode of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast, hosts Bobby Manning, John Zannis and Josue Pavon talked about the Celtics bench and who stood out most during the preseason.
