The Tennessee Titans had one of the most unpredictable and thrilling turnarounds during the 2019 season, ultimately falling short of a Super Bowl appearance by just one win.
To get back to that point, they’ve locked down key pieces of the team like quarterback Ryan Tannehill and running back Derrick Henry.
They also added talent this offseason, bolstering the roster with some promising talent from the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Titans used the No. 29 overall pick to bring on former Georgia offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson — the same player Bleacher Report named as the player the team should be most excited about watching in preseason.
Here’s a look at exactly what the network’s Kristopher Knox had to say about Wilson.
The Tennessee Titans leaned heavily on their running game in 2019, as evidenced by Derrick Henry’s league-leading 1,540 rushing yards. While Henry deserves credit for racking up those yards, it would be unfair to ignore the talented line that opened holes for him all season.
A big piece of that line was right tackle Jack Conklin, who departed for the Browns in free agency. Replacing Conklin won’t be easy, but Tennessee drafted Georgia’s Isaiah Wilson in the first round to do exactly that.
The Titans and their fans should be excited to see how well Wilson can replace Conklin. While this is a tall order, it’s worth noting Conklin was an All-Pro as a rookie. Ideally for Tennessee, Wilson will showcase similar potential in the preseason.
Before he can take the spot left vacant by Conklin, Wilson is going to have to compete with Dennis Kelly in training camp. Wilson, who is already at a disadvantage because of his lack of NFL experience, also won’t have the benefit of having a rookie mini-camp.
Regardless, he’ll be in the spotlight during camp and in the preseason more so than most rookies on the team as he tries to prove the Titans made the right move taking him in the first round.
Will Wilson ultimately prove worthy of taking the place of Conklin, who was on a major upswing, for the long-term future? Only time will tell exactly where the rookie’s ceiling lies.
