I couldn’t be happier to be so wrong.
Let me explain: back in November, I saw the news about Chris Paul getting dealt to the Phoenix Suns … and I wasn’t sold. My coworkers at the time tried to talk me out of it, so it’s not on them.
There was a variety of reasons: you were breaking up some of the key parts of a team that had just gone 8-0 in the bubble, and in a Western Conference that was positively stacked, I didn’t think the young Suns with their veteran legend addition could break through and give CP3 a chance at his first ring. With Paul’s player option coming up this summer, I wondered if it could be a one-and-done situation in Phoenix.
Uh, my bad. I didn’t realize that the Point God could do what he’s done to this team to turn them from also-ran to possible champion, that he’s exactly what Devin Booker needed to take the pressure off, that Deandre Ayton would blossom and so on.
But I’m SO happy!
I also happened to write last month that everyone should jump on the Chris Paul train during this postseason, that we should all root for him to win his first title. And it could happen!!
It’s a good day to be wrong. Good luck in the Finals!
