It’s a fun and interesting question to toss around six weeks before the LSU season opener: Which USC football freshmen will have big seasons for the Trojans? USC has some depth questions up front, so if a freshman lineman can play above expectations and offer the coaching staff a valuable plug-in piece either in a starting or depth-providing role, that would significantly raise the ceiling for the team in 2024.
One point to make in this conversation is that USC is more likely to have a defensive breakout star among its freshman group than an offensive star, if only because the teaching credentials and overall reputation of the defensive position coaches exceeds what exists on the offensive side of the ball. That point aside, though, if USC can get at least one offensive lineman and one defensive lineman to become a freshman star this year, the Trojans’ upside will increase.
