It is finally gameday for several teams as the 2023 college football season kicks off. Two major programs are on the docket as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and USC Trojans begin their seasons with non-Power Five opponents.
The Irish kick things off in Ireland when they face off with Navy. The Midshipmen lost this matchup last season 35-32. Notre Dame has won five straight in the series and 10 of the last 11 matchups. The 2012 and 2013 games were vacated.
According to USA TODAY Sports’ Eddie Timanus, the top game to watch is Notre Dame vs. Navy in Ireland.
Why watch: It’s the first game! Of course you’ll watch! The campaign gets underway across the pond, where one might assume Notre Dame to have a home-crowd advantage given its nickname, but the Midshipmen should have their share of supporters on the Emerald Isle as well.
USC would likely be the No. 1 team to watch on this list but with the game being televised on Pac-12 Network, not many people will actually get to see it.
