Florida may have covered the spread against Georgia on Saturday, but a three-score loss doesn’t have fans confident that the Gators will be playing in a bowl game this year.
Jerry Palm of CBS Sports isn’t buying that narrative just yet, though. He has the Gators playing against Washington in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 17, according to his latest bowl game projections.
The Vegas Bowl has become a popular prediction for Florida’s postseason contest. With tie-ins to the SEC and Pac-12, a six-win Florida team would fit the bill nicely for this game. That means Florida’s opponent will likely have a location advantage, being from the West Coast, but Gator Nation is vast and will show up en masse to support their program.
Currently, Palm sees the Gators matching up with the Washington Huskies, which would be the first matchup between the two since 1989. Florida lost the Freedom Bowl matchup 34-7 that year, so this could be an opportunity for revenge.
UF still has to become bowl eligible, though. With four games left and a 4-4 record, the Gators will have to win twice against Texas A&M, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Florida State. The Commodores are the only one of those four that seems like a sure-fire win, so Florida can’t afford to slack off down the stretch.
