Where UNC stands in NET ranking going into Virginia game

We take a look at where the UNC basketball program lands in the updated NET rankings ahead of Saturday’s game against Virginia.

Saturday’s game presents a big opportunity for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they host No. 6 Virginia in the Dean E. Smith Center.  On the wrong side of the bubble, North Carolina needs a Quad 1 win with just a week left in the regular season.

But it won’t be easy.

Virginia has been one of the best teams in the ACC all season long and they are coming off a tough loss to Boston College. The Cavaliers are hoping to keep pace atop the ACC standings and getting a big road win would be huge for them.

As we get ready for this game on Saturday,  North Carolina currently sits at No. 47 in the NET rankings which were updated after Friday’s games. The Tar Heels stayed put from their ranking after beating Notre Dame on Wednesday.

The biggest factor holding North Carolina down is the record in Quad 1 games this year. They currently have a 0-9 record but a win on Saturday changes that, and they can potentially get another one if Michigan gets back in the Top 50 before the season is over.

The most important thing for UNC is to finish this season strong and win as many games as possible if they want to reach the NCAA Tournament.
