The 2023 season ended in disappointment for the North Carolina Tar Heels after a hot start. UNC dropped its final two games of the year and then the bowl game, seemingly wasting another year of Drake Maye.
After the 6-0 start, UNC dropped games to Virginia and Georgia Tech which killed any hopes they had for the College Football Playoff and ACC title game. As we go into the offseason, we know this is going to be a very different UNC roster next season and it’s tough to project where they will finish.
Brad Crawford of 247Sports gave his shot at power ranking the ACC through the first month of the offseason including transfer portal moves. For North Carolina, he had them at No. 9 but in the group of “interchangeable” with 6-10:
This one took some time. Schedule breakdowns. Portal additions. Couple messages with staff.
1-5 is a crapshoot, 6-10 interchangeable and the rest? Could be a thorn in your side. pic.twitter.com/yybshmRRGV

Florida State topped the rankings after winning the conference last year, beating Louisville who is No. 2. But Miami took a big step forward being ranked No. 3 which is in large part due to the damage they did in the portal with landing quarterback Cam Ward.
There’s a lot of time between now and Week 1 but it’s hard seeing UNC having a better year this early.
