Where UNC basketball ranks in Jon Rothstein’s top 45 for 2023-24

Here is where the UNC basketball program stands in Jon Rothstein’s top 45 for the 2023-24 season.

Since the college basketball season ended, it has been an exciting period in terms of the transfer portal, as expected. The portal doesn’t close for a few more weeks and teams are using it to fill roster holes for the 2023-24 season.

And it’s never too early to start talking about next season.

College Hoops Today’s Jon Rothstein has kept an eye on the activity over the past few weeks and has put out his Rothstein 45 for the upcoming season as a preseason edition. Rothstein released the list on Tuesday. The North Carolina Tar Heels cracked the list but checked in at No. 34.

Here is how Rothstein projects the Tar Heels’ lineup as of today:

Projected Starting 5:
G R.J. Davis
G Simeon Wilcher
G D’Marco Dunn
F Jae’Lyn Withers
C Armando Bacot
Projected Bench: Seth Trimble, Jalen Washington, Zayden High, Paxson Wojcik
Key Newcomers: Simeon Wilcher, Zayden High, Paxson Wojcik (Brown), Jae’Lyn Withers (Louisville)
Key Losses: Pete Nance, Leaky Black, Dontrez Styles, Puff Johnson, Tyler Nickel, Justin McCoy, Caleb Love

Now, this is going to change a bunch of times until tipoff for the new season as there will be more roster moves coming. We also have to envision that if Harrison Ingram commits to North Carolina, he will take D’Marco Dunn’s spot in the lineup as well.

The ranking for North Carolina puts them fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference behind Duke (No. 1), Miami (No. 5) and Virginia (No. 29).
