The next step in the college basketball offseason is the closure of the transfer portal for winter sports. On Thursday, the portal will close. leaving athletes just a few more days to make a decision.
While it would be a surprise to see any more UNC basketball players enter the portal, the team has seen six departures and four arrivals in what has been an active portal for the team. But where does North Carolina stand now as the portal comes to a close?
247Sports updated its early 2023-24 top 25 college basketball rankings and UNC has cracked the list. The site has UNC ranked No. 21 in the updated poll.
Here is what it had to say about UNC:
The loss of Caleb Love to Michigan means that the Tar Heels have a bit more defined roles this year, with RJ Davis and Armando Bacot both projecting as All-ACC types. Adding Harrison Ingram from Stanford, Cormac Ryan from Notre Dame and Paxson Wojcik from Brown gives North Carolina three unselfish, ball-moving role players who look like great fits.
The Tar Heels are the third-highest ranked team in the ACC in the poll behind No. 2 Duke and No. 14 Miami.
UNC still has two spots to fill on its roster and rumors are flying that Elliot Cadeau could reclassify. The Tar Heels could also add another player out of the portal to boost its roster as well.
