As we enter what is expected to be another slow month of sports here in July, the North Carolina men’s basketball roster may not be finalized.
The Tar Heels have three open scholarships for this season’s roster after adding four players out of the transfer portal and a two-man 2023 recruiting class. Though there is room for additions, the options are running out.
Early in the month of July the Tar Heels are projected as a tournament team, a year after missing out on the NCAA Tournament. And CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has them comfortably in the field.
Palm released his latest mock bracket on Friday and listed the Tar Heels as a No. 5 seed in the South Region. He has them going up against one of the No. 12 seed play-in games.
Also in that region is No. 1 overall seed Kansas, No. 2 seed Tennessee, No. 3 seed Gonzaga and No. 4 seed FAU. That would be a tough region if it were to break that way.
Of course, much will happen between now and the 2024 NCAA Tournament, and this mock bracket will look a whole lot different come Selection Sunday. But it’s always nice to gauge where analysts think the Tar Heels stand.
