Where the Nets’ big three ranks among NBA.com’s top players in the league

Kevin Durant is ranked the No. 1 player in the league entering the new season.

We’re now entering the fourth quarter with training camp starting in the next few days. With so much to look forward to after an eventful offseason that still has not finished, NBA.com has released their player rankings entering the new year. Nets forward Kevin Durant finds himself on top of that list with James Harden ranking eighth and Kyrie Irving ranking 16th.

Durant is fresh off delivering a gold medal to Team USA. In last season’s campaign, he put the league on notice, showing no decline in his game despite a tragic achilles injury. He put up 26.9 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 5.6 APG on an amazing 54% shooting from the field and 45% accuracy from three.

As for Harden, he adapted to his new role in Brooklyn seamlessly. Before going down with a hamstring injury, the Beard was in the MVP race. Still, the 32-year-old managed to average 24.6 PPG, 10.9 APG and 8.5 RPG in 36.6 MPG. According to NBA.com, “We’ll get a much better look at him next to his superstar teammates Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, a trio that has just scratched the surface of what it could become.”

For his running mate in the backcourt, Kyrie Irving, the Duke product had a historic 50-40-90 shooting season. Of course, this was accomplished on his way to averaging 26.9 PPG and 6 APG. There’s no doubt the Nets big three will be hungrier this year. Perhaps we will see the trio elevate their game even more as they pursue an NBA championship alongside one another.
