Mack Brown’s North Carolina Tar Heels are set to open up the 2023 season next week in Charlotte with a neutral site game against South Carolina.
Getting the season off to a good start with a win is crucial for the Tar Heels as they begin with three non-conference opponents before heading to Pitt to start ACC play. The schedule is tough this year for the Tar Heels including wrapping up with games against Duke, Clemson and NC State at the end of the year.
But how do the experts think the Tar Heels will do?
The Athletic’s Stewart Mandel put out his predictions for the upcoming season in the ACC including a projected finish. He has North Carolina going 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the ACC. That record would be fifth in the conference per Mandel.
Florida State takes the top spot at 7-1 in conference play followed by Clemson, Pitt, Duke, and then North Carolina. It’s interesting to see where Mandel has the Tar Heels projected to finish seeing that they are usually in that No. 3 spot or sometimes No. 4. But it’s rare to see them projected as No. 5 in the conference.
