Where Michigan football ranks in Amway Coaches Poll now that it’s played a game

After losing to MSU in Big Ten Week 2, Michigan football was poised to drop in the Amway Coaches Poll. But how far?

As wonderful as last week was for the Michigan football program and its fans, it’s an equal amount of horrible this week.

Whatever goodwill that the Wolverines earned with the coaches after beating Minnesota in Big Ten Week 1, that was assuredly lost after losing to unranked Michigan State.

With the latest Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports, released on Sunday, it’s clear that the coaches still see Michigan as a ranked team, but barely, as it checks in at No. 25.

What’s more, Michigan will have tough sledding moving forward. While Penn State fell out of the rankings entirely, the Wolverines will face No. 13 Indiana next. And there’s still No. 11 Wisconsin — assuming it can field a team on Nov. 14 — and No. 3 Ohio State looming on Dec. 12.

For now, the maize and blue will have to regroup and take things one week at a time.
