It was inevitable that Michigan football would get some forward momentum in the first Amway Coaches Poll, powered by USA TODAY Sports, after it actually played a game.
The Wolverines were ranked No. 17 going into Saturday, facing No. 21 Minnesota. With a 49-24 victory over a ranked opponent, you would think that would move the maize and blue up significantly, right?
Well, it moved up, the minimal three spots to No. 14.
Meanwhile, every other team ahead of Michigan — except No. 7 Penn State — was victorious. But there were only two other ranked-on-ranked matchups: No. 6 Oklahoma State over No. 18 Iowa State and No. 9 Cincinnati over No. 16 SMU. But does anybody, after watching the Wolverines think that they’re worse than Oklahoma State or Cincinnati?
Regardless, Michigan continues to not get much credit when it does something that pundits say it can’t do or something that those same pundits proclaim will be a likely struggle for the Wolverines.
