There is still a long ways to go until the 2023 NFL draft next April but that hasn’t stopped analysts from releasing mock drafts. Heck, we haven’t even played the 2022 NFL season yet.
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. released his updated big board including the top 25 players of the draft plus the top players at each position. North Carolina didn’t have a player in the top 25 but they did have someone in the top 10 at their position.
Defensive back Tony Grimes barely made the cut among defensive backs in 2023, ranking No. 10 at the position for Kiper Jr.’s big board. He joins Josh Downs, who was No. 4 among receivers, as the only two Tar Heels on the list.
Grimes has spent two seasons at North Carolina after enrolling early as a five-star recruit. He’s had his ups and downs so far but is a talented prospect that could hear his name called come April’s draft.
A solid season of improvement will go a long ways in Grimes stock as the year goes on.
