It may not have sunk in yet, but Bo Nix’s career at Oregon is finished, and in April he’ll be selected by one of 32 teams to continue his career in the NFL. It seems like the Bo Nix era at Oregon just began, but it will be fun to follow Bo as he continues his journey into the NFL.
With the level of quarterback talent in this year’s class, a first-round selection isn’t guaranteed for Nix, but he is still one of the best prospects in the draft. On Tuesday, Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus (PFF) listed the best draft prospect for all 32 NFL teams, and he named Nix as the Denver Broncos top prospect. Sikkema had this to say about the former Ducks QB.
“If they stay in the middle of the first round, where they are projected to pick, Nix would be an ideal option. Nix has legit NFL arm strength in both distance and velocity, as well as added mobility with his legs. He’s also the most experienced college quarterback of all time with 60 games as a starter. He and Sean Payton could work well together.”
Since their Super Bowl win in 2015, the Broncos have been in QB purgatory. In the last eight seasons, Denver has had 12 different starting QBs, and it’s uncertain who will take their snaps in 2024. Russell Wilson was thought to be their savior after the Broncos traded for him in 2022, but the team seems ready to move on from him this offseason.
The biggest thing Sikkema failed to mention in his analysis is Nix’s decision-making ability. During his time at Auburn, Nix was defined by the duality of his decision-making, since he was capable of amazing plays but often failed to protect the ball. There was “Good Bo,” there was and “Bad Bo.” But at Oregon, Nix became a much calmer and more cerebral passer. He makes great adjustments at the line, makes the proper reads, and most importantly, protects the football.
If the Broncos were to end up with Nix, he has the talent and experience to make an immediate positive impact, but Denver would still need to bring in pieces around him to create an efficient offense. Adding a quality receiver and fortifying the offensive line are musts for the Broncos this offseason. If Denver can make the proper moves, Bo Nix may be the final piece they need to elevate their offense.
