Penn State remains no. 6 in the brand new AP Top 25 college football poll after having a bye week in Week 6. It is the same ranking Penn State held a week ago after its most recent win at Northwestern, but there was some movement ahead of the Nittany Lions this weekend.
The most notable development in the AP Top 25’s top 10 was Oklahoma soaring up seven spots to no. 5, one spot ahead of Penn State. Oklahoma jumped up the rankings following its rivalry win against Texas. The Longhorns fell six spots from no. 3 down to no. 9 following the close loss to the Sooners.
The drop by Texas allowed no. 3 Ohio State and no. 4 Florida State each to move up a spot in the updated AP Top 25. Georgia continues to hold the top spot with 50 first-place votes and Michigan is no. 2 with 11 first-place votes.
Other big movers in the AP Top 25 this week included no. 14 Louisville. The Cardinals moved up 11 spots after their big home win against Notre Dame. The Irish dropped 11 spots from no. 10 down to no. 21 after their second loss of the season and second loss in its last three games.
No. 25 Miami managed to stay within the top 25 despite their perplexing home loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday night. The Hurricanes let a victory slip away by refusing to take a knee to run out the clock only to fumble away the football and lose on a long touchdown pass with just one second remaining in the game. The Hurricanes fell eight spots in this week’s AP poll.

Penn State may not have moved up in this week’s AP Top 25 but the Nittany Lions did move up one spot in the updated US LBM Coaches Poll. Penn State will return to the field this weekend with a home game against UMass.
