Where Florida football stands in CBS Sports’ rankings after Week 1

The Gators took a tumble in CBS Sports’ 1-133 rankings, but not as far as one might expect.

Billy Napier and Co. were slow out of the gates last Thursday in their season-opener against the Utah Utes out in Salt Lake City. While the home team was favored in the matchup, the end result was far from what the fans and media alike had expected.

Coming into the game, CBS Sports had ranked the Gators at No. 41. That ranking is nine spots better than where they finished last season when CBS Sports ranked them at No. 50 following Napier’s debut campaign.

The publication released its updated rankings following all of Week 1’s action, which saw the Orange and Blue tumble eight spots to No. 49. They are bookended by the Houston Cougars (No. 48) and Wake Forest Demon Deacons — both winners in their opening games — at the bottom of the top 50.

The Gators look to even up their overall record before conference play begins against the Cowboys, who travel to Gainesville on Saturday, Sept. 9. Kickoff time is slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
