Where ESPN would have Sam Howell ranked in this draft class

Here is where ESPN experts think former UNC football quarterback Sam Howell would rank in the 2023 NFL draft.

Former North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell is getting set for his chance to be the starter for the Washington Commanders this season, battling veteran Jacoby Brissett in the offseason.

Howell started in just one game as a rookie after he was selected in the fifth round in the 2022 NFL draft, falling before the Commanders finally took him. But where would Howell be ranked in this draft class?

Back in 2021 going into that season, many had a first-round grade on Howell and through he should be one of the top quarterbacks off the board. That didn’t happen after that season and now he’s looking to prove doubters wrong.

ESPN draft experts Mel Kiper, Todd McShay, Matt Miller and Jordan Reid all answered the question of where Howell would be ranked if he came out in this draft. The highest he was at his position was at ‘five or six’ per Kiper’s answer.

McShay has Howell at No. 8 while Reid has him sixth and Miller sixth as well.

It’s interesting to read what they had to say about Howell and this class that features Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, Anthony Richardson and Hendon Hooker among others.

But Howell can prove everyone wrong with a big offseason and then regular season as the starter.
