North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye entered this season as one of the favorites for the Heisman trophy. With Caleb Williams looking to go back-to-back, he has some challengers including Maye.
And while the start to the season wasn’t the greatest stat-wise, Maye has put together a string of really good football games lately. With that, Maye has climbed up the Heisman power rankings from On3, moving into the Top 10.
After throwing for over 400 yards and three touchdowns against Syracuse on Saturday, Maye checks in at No. 7. Here is what On3 had to say about Maye’s season and where he ranks going into Week 7:
After a bit of a slow start to the season, Maye might have gotten his Heisman Trophy campaign back on track with a big outing in a dominant win over a solid Syracuse team on Saturday. He threw for 442 yards and three touchdowns (with no interceptions) and also ran for 55 yards and a score. It was his first four-touchdown outing of the season.
But the numbers are also pretty good overall for Maye, though he can’t compete with some of the top signal-callers on touchdown-to-interception ratio just yet. He’s thrown for 1,629 yards in five games, with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. He’s also run for four scores.
As Williams remains in the top spot, Maye will have to continue his hot play as of late and maybe, even more, to not only pass others on the list but catch Williams. But there’s a lot of football to be played.
