The Carolina Panthers are preparing to follow their third starting quarterback in as many years. Will Sam Darnold prove to be an upgrade over the last two who lead this franchise? Time will tell, but for now coaches and evaluators around the league don’t think terribly highly of his game after three brutal years with the New York Jets.
The Athletic recently polled 50 coaches and evaluators and had them rank 34 potential starting QBs around the NFL. Darnold came in at No. 24.
“Darnold slipped into Tier 4 after a third successive dismal season on offense with the Jets, who ranked 32nd in offensive EPA by a wide margin during his time with the team. Factors beyond Darnold obviously contributed. The Jets are the only team with zero Pro Bowl players on offense over the past five seasons.”
Teddy Bridgewater was ranked No. 26 on the list, while Cam Newton was next at No. 27.
