The Oklahoma Sooners are off to a roaring start to the 2024-2025 college basketball season. They’re 12-1 as they prepare for their first SEC contest against the Texas Longhorns in what will be a top 10 showdown in Norman on January 2.

In the latest USA TODAY Sports Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll, the Sooners come in at No. 10 in the nation, holding steady from last week’s top 25. The Texas Longhorns, who the Sooners will face on Thursday evening, are at No. 6 in the nation.

The Longhorns and the Sooners are two of the four teams from the SEC inside the top 10, with defending champion South Carolina at No. 2 and undefeated LSU sitting at No. 4 in the nation. Outside the top 10, there are four other SEC schools ranked this week. Tennessee is at No. 13, Kentucky at No. 16, Alabama at No. 20, and Ole Miss enters the poll at No. 25.

After OU faces Texas at home, the Sooners will make their first SEC road trip to face the Lady Vols on January 5. Facing Texas and Tennessee to open conference play will provide a strong litmus test to what kind of team Jennie Baranczyk has in 2024-2025.
