Where do the Titans stand in the AFC playoff picture?

Sunday’s game against Houston will be either a major step in the right direction, or a serious hindrance to a postseason run.

The Tennessee Titans (8-5) have been on the outside looking in up to this point in the AFC playoff pictures, but have a chance to really turn the tide by taking the No. 1 spot in the AFC South with a win over the Houston Texans (8-5) this week.

This won’t be the last meeting between the two teams, who play each other twice in a three-week time span. The Titans will also face the New Orleans Saints in their remaining regular season schedule.

Sunday’s game will be either a major step in the right direction for the Texans, or a serious hindrance to making it to the playoffs. Houston also still has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Titans to play at NRG Stadium before their regular season comes to a close.

As for the other teams in the division, the Indianapolis Colts (6-7) still have the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars on the schedule, and will be eliminated with a loss, or a tie and a Pittsburgh Steelers win or tie.

The Jaguars (4-9) have already been ruled out of postseason contention, and will spend the offseason putting the pieces in place for a more successful 2020 season.

The Titans and Texans are set to kick off at noon CT on Sunday.
