Where did Duke football end up in USA TODAY Sports’ bowl projections?

USA TODAY Sports released its updated bowl projections on Tuesday, and the Blue Devils drew a team that recently challenged Alabama.

Duke football’s Friday victory over Northwestern greatly improved the Blue Devils’ chances of reaching six wins in 2024. The Wildcats were the only Power Four opponent on the schedule ahead of conference play, and barring an upset, Duke should enter its ACC slate with four wins to its credit already.

According to some Tuesday bowl projections from USA TODAY Sports’ Erick Smith, the Blue Devils ended up against South Florida in the Gasparilla Bowl.

The Bulls gained some national attention for their game against the Alabama Crimson Tide last weekend when USF trailed by one point after three quarters. Quarterback Byrum Brown, one of the breakout stars of EA Sports College Football 25, finished with 100 yards through the air and on the ground.

Smith also included two ACC teams in the College Football Playoff, giving Miami a first-round bye reserved for conference champions while the Clemson Tigers clinched one of the at-large bids.
