The Indianapolis Colts are excited about what first-round pick Kwity Paye can bring to the table even on an immediate level along the defensive line.
Recently, our friends over at Draft Wire ranked the first-round picks from the 2021 NFL draft. Where Paye ranks in this list won’t make Colts fans happy as the Michigan product came in at No. 19.
Some of the players ahead of Paye on the list are a bit head-scratching. Though Paye is the highest edge rusher to be ranked among first-round selections, there are some moves that are questionable to be considered better than the Colts’ pick of Paye.
For instance, the Broncos’ selection of cornerback Patrick Surtain will certainly help their defense, but it also came in passing on Justin Fields despite their massive need at quarterback.
Also, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ selection of running back Najee Harris, which I love for fantasy football, was ranked 10th among picks in the first round.
Maybe we’re a bit biased because we see there is clear upside with Paye going to the Colts but given the optimism in camp right now surrounding the rookie, that’s only fair.
Development still has to take place, but it wouldn’t be a shock at all if Paye winds up becoming a cornerstone as early as his rookie season.
