Where Chiefs stand in AFC West after Week 1

The #Chiefs are the No. 2 team in the AFC West standings after Week 1, but they could claim sole possession of the top spot in Week 2. | from @WesleyRoesch

The NFL’s first week of 2022 is in the books, and the Kansas City Chiefs are off to a great start.

After wins by both squads, the Chiefs are tied with the Chargers for first place in the AFC West standings. Here’s how the division shakes out after Week 1:

  1. Los Angeles Chargers (1-0)
Week 1 result: Won vs. Raiders 24-19
    Week 2 opponent: at Chiefs
  2. Kansas City Chiefs (1-0)
Week 1 result: Won at Cardinals 44-21

    Week 2 opponent: vs. Chargers
  3. Denver Broncos (0-1)
Week 1 result: Lost at Seahawks 16-17
    Week 2 opponent: vs. Texans
  4. Las Vegas Raiders (0-1)
Week 1 result: Lost at Chargers 19-24
    Week 2 opponent: vs. Cardinals

The Chiefs’ win over the Arizona Cardinals put K.C. atop of the AFC West alongside the Chargers, who are technically ahead thanks to a divisional win over the Raiders in Week 1. By that same technicality, the Raiders are at the bottom of the division with a division loss.

The Chiefs will have a chance to be the sole squad at the top of the division in Week 2 when they take on the Chargers at home Thursday night. Denver will host the Houston Texans, while the Raiders will host the Cardinals. Ultimately, there’s a lot on the line for both Kansas City and Los Angeles in an early Thursday night matchup.
